I’m sorry you had to wait so long for this article, almost a month. But I promise it took me so much to write it and in fact it is very long and contains a lot of photos. Plus, I began college so I was very busy trying to fit into a new way of life. Stop excusing myself, I promise you will love this article. I divided it into two parts to make it easier for you: the first one on new trends, the second one on worse and best fashion shows in MFW S/S 15.
In general every Spring/ Summer collection has to be with floral prints, colour block or stripes. This year the atmosphere has been respected mostly everywhere with long and wide dresses, pants, with weightless fabrics that reflect the mood we all have in summer, searching desperately for some freshness. But I saw in general collections more like autumn ones with dark colours (blue, black, brown) and the use of leather and fur that is for me a nonsense in summer… My scientific analysis of each collection has also detected some common details that certainly you will find in boutiques and will be the next fashion.
Alberta Ferretti, Versace, Roberto Cavalli, N°21, Francesco Scognamiglio and the list is long. All of them find in transparency the icon of the new Spring/Summer 15 collection. I have to agree with this choice that somehow reflect the young spirit of the season.
From decades floral print has become a “classic” option in spring but this year fashion designers have opted for a variant of it with a design inspired by the oriental culture. Dolce & Gabbana, Marni, N°21 and others go classic with this immortal print.
I noticed also the use of this special colour that has always been linked to winter. Emporio Armani, Prada, Gucci based their spring collection on dark colours like black or brown. I personally think that the use of dark colours is inappropriate for spring and summer. The majority of MFW’s collections seems more an Autumn/ Winter one like I said before. But this electric blue seems to relive in a Spring/Summer version. Emporio Armani, Philipp Plein and Dsquared² light up the catwalk.
Optical illusions for Fausto Puglisi, Byblos Milano and Max Mara. I’m Isola Marras and Philipp Plein are more on stripes and classics (stars, dots) but the effect on catwalk is always spectacular.
Glitter and sequins
Glitters and sequins light up the shows in Versace, Bottega Veneta, Au Jour Le Jour and others… It works as good for the day as the evening, as showed by Bottega Veneta or Philipp Plein.
In Spring flowers bloom but also birds spring from their egg. Fendi, Giamba and Dsquared² remember us purposing those elegant or odd styles mixed with other fabrics (leather in Fendi) or items (tee and big bag for Dsquared²).
Luisa Beccaria, Cristiano Burani, Salvatore Ferragamo have in common this wonderful French print (of course it has to be wonderful, it’s French) that is named Vichy. I don’t know why, but like stripes, Frenchs love this print and I’m one of those! So when I saw Burani’s collection entirely built on it I raved.
Fausto Puglisi, Dsquared², Au Jour Le Jour and Marni rocked the fashion show introducing gold elements or details. I am enthralled about the Au Jour Le Jour’s plissé and Marni’s gold flowers.
A smart to connect winter and spring is bringing leather, a classic winter fabric in traditional spring/summer color block. Dsquared² and Trussardi get the thing and success.
Especially in Alberta Ferretti fashion show fringe is used because seventies inspire the collection. In fact, natural long dresses, flowers, wind in the hair, large jeans and a lot of suede create a boho/Indian/hippie style. Etro is more on Native American spirit and the Etro’s woman seems to know Pocahontas. Fringes are everywhere: shoes, bags, on the ponchos, on jackets… Giorgio Armani finds an elegant version of it matching the fringe with strict jackets.
