On this third amazing and sunny day in Paris, we finally went to the exhibition that I wanted so much to see: Velasquez at Grand Palais. But we were a lot disappointed in the end because there were not so many “famous” paintings and just a lot of portraits, which if you know a little history of arts is not so surprising (Velasquez used to be the official painter in Spanish Royal family) , but I was expecting something bigger… Anyway, we ate at the museum restaurant because in that area there are not so many places to eat, you would have to go up to Boulevard Saint-Germain, and we were starving and tired (plus, when you payed for something you did not like you are not in a good mood at all). I forgot to mention that to go to the Grand Palais the nearest underground station is Champs-Elysées-Clémenceau.
Our next stop was L’Orangerie, a not so known little museum in the Jardin des Tuileries that has been entirely dedicated to one of the most precious works of all time: the Nymphéas series by Claude Monet. I highly recommend to visit this little paradise if you never went before because first you have the location that is so parisian cliché, then you have the paintings that are spectacular and finally the atmosphere is something beyond words. Take some time to dive into this magical and relaxing atmosphere. Plus, if you are under 25 yo it is free, and the tour does not last a lot. We walked through the park that is splendid truly, you must go there at least for the Jardin.
We took the métro Concorde to Chatelet where we had to meet with a friend. At this point of the day, we were again starving so we stopped at Centre Pompidou that is near les Halles where we had to meet and searched for a boulangerie. After eating and resting a little under the sun, we went to Les Halles, that is basically a huge subterranean mall, and wondered through the shops. We hang out with our friend before leaving to go home (btw, hey A. I know you are reading).
